Apple’s First Foldable iPhone May Launch in 2026 With 12-Inch Display

Apple’s Foldable iPhone: What to Expect

Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone may finally arrive in fall 2026, according to a new leak. The device is expected to feature a book-style folding design with a 12-inch inner display, making it a direct competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. The foldable iPhone will reportedly measure 9.2mm thick when folded and just 4.6mm when unfolded, making it significantly slimmer than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 (12.1mm). The internal screen is said to be equivalent to two 6.1-inch iPhones placed together, giving users a tablet-like experience when fully opened. Apple is also expected to equip the device with a dual rear camera setup, featuring a main sensor and an ultra-wide sensor, along with a 5,000mAh 3D-stacked battery developed by ATL.

Production & Supply Chain Details

Production is expected to begin with Foxconn in 2026, with Luxshare taking over in 2027. The screen will reportedly be supplied by Samsung Display, which is developing Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) Lens technology exclusively for Apple. The hinge mechanism will be designed by Apple but sourced from Taiwan-based suppliers, while other internal components could come from Lingyi.

Market Impact & Future Foldable Devices

Apple aims to sell 8-10 million foldable iPhones in 2026, with sales expected to reach 20 million units by 2027. Additionally, Apple may launch foldable iPad and MacBook models in 2027, expanding its portfolio of foldable devices. However, there appears to be no progress on a flip-style foldable iPhone, indicating that Apple is currently focusing only on larger, book-style foldables.

If these reports hold true, Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market could intensify competition and set new industry standards.
